  1. Hi Juliana! Great blog! I learned a lot by reading through your facts and the purpose of virtual assistants. It is so funny, I never realized Apple's Siri could be a virtual assistant for students or even adults. The way you explained it makes complete sense and very interesting. Your blog makes me wonder what little things we are over looking that can be virtual assistants for the classroom. What type of virtual assistants do you currently use?

    1. I really liked this project because it opened me up to Google Now. I already use Siri for interacting with my phone, but now I'm using Google Now all.the.time. It's so much faster and accurate for web searches. I usually don't use it in front of my students, but sometimes if we are outside during class or doing something informal, I'll use it. I'm interested to see how this evolves in the next few years.

    2. Same here! When reading through your blog, I never correlated these tools with classroom teaching. It's very interesting to see where these things will go in the next few years. I really like how to compared these every day tools to enhance learning for students. I would love to see someone jump on this and give ideas for lessons and activities!

  2. Hi Juliana - Great job on your blog! I use the Siri but never thought of it as a virtual assistant. The possibility of integrating this into education is great! If students are able to create searches and reminders for classes, it would be like a personal secretary for that course. Do you use the Google virtual assistant and have you integrated this into your classroom?

    1. I use Google Now more than Siri! I find it much more reliable, especially with web searches. I have used it in the classroom, but not with my students yet. I noticed that Google Chrome has a voice activation button in the toolbar. I mentioned this to my students and a lot of them are now asking their web searches instead of typing their searches. Eventually when students are able to have mobile devices in class, virtual assistants will be a great tool.

  3. I'll have to try Google out! It will be great when students are in a BYOD classroom and will be able to use it. Thanks for the information!

  4. Hi Juliana
Great job on your blog! I never really used any of the virtual assistants but after viewing your blog I see the benefits it has in the classroom. I like how you mention it will be great for special education students. I like how Google Now is available on the iPhone and iPad. Does this get Siri jealous? I also like your movie clip. It's funny how old sic-fi movies are becoming reality!

  5. Lovely blog. I use Siri, but not as much as I see my other friends use it. I have a friend that uses Siri really as an assistant. Siri writes her emails, text messages and even wake her up in the morning. Before reading your blog, I never thought about using Siri in the classroom so this is something I will explore. I am excited about Web 3.0 and the changes it will bring to Virtual Assistant. Thanks for sharing

  6. Nice Blog Julia! I have never considered using a personal assistant program in the classroom before, but now my curiosity is piqued! I can see how it could be useful with keeping appointments and dates and am curious to see more ways in which the students can utilize one.

  7. Hi Juliana, great blog! I've used Siri before on my phone but had never heard of Google Now before looking through your site. Have you used it before? Does it work exactly like Siri in the way where you can hold a button and it will find things for you or do you have to be in a Google search browswer?

    1. I use Google Now more than anything. I downloaded the Google App and synced it to my primary Google account. Once you open the app, you click the voice control button and you can ask it questions. In that same app, you'll find the cards too - weather, restaurants in the area, package trackings, birthdays, etc.
